Supportive Cheerleader Boyfriends Are All The Rage

Whether one is crossing the catwalk or just walking down Hollywood and Vine, everybody should feel admired by their partner. Yes — love and affection pay the bills, but one of the most important aspects of a relationship is the overwhelming pride in a person’s successes.

On Sunday, 22 glittered-up models walked the stage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, showcasing the brand’s styles across the seasons. Bella Hadid graced the stage in a floral-laced lingerie set, bringing a sweet springtime to the ecstatic milieu. Paloma Elsesser showed out in a drape of pink flowers bracing her like wings. Star after star, the women owned the runway in pieces crafted as though they were meant for a museum.

Somehow, the viewers’ focus strayed from the beautiful models striding before them. Internet users were quick to point out the event’s front row, where actors Dylan Sprouse and Timothèe Chalamet sat clapping on the sideline.

Kylie Jenner made her debut in the infamous Victoria’s Secret $50 million Fantasy Bra, previously worn by Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen. Jenner shocked viewers with this surprise appearance on the stage. As the camera panned to her strut, it quickly moved to the front row, where Chalamet and Kris Jenner sat applauding.

Fans believe that Chalamet’s constant support for Jenner showcases his altruistic appreciation for his girlfriend’s craft. Is it supportive of a partner to cheer on enthusiastically, even if that means attention will be drawn away from the stage?

Not far from Chalamet’s cheerleader box was actor Dylan Sprouse, who attended the show in support of his wife, Barbara Palvin. The couple recently welcomed a child together, as Sprouse gushed to red carpet correspondent E! News about her drive and motivation. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show fell just six weeks after the birth of her child, and Palvin was perfectly ready to stride.

Sprouse’s pride before the show reminds viewers of the vulnerability that comes with praising a partner, and how the simple act of public admiration speaks volumes about the relationship. Men who are not afraid to speak on their partner’s successes appear more emotionally mature.

For ages, women in the spotlight were encouraged not to shine too brightly, for their career might make their partner jealous. Women are taught to be cheerleaders — standing at the sidelines, cheering on their boyfriends, and praising all that they do.

When men step back to cheer on their partner, any question of narcissism quickly disappears. This simple act says a lot about how stable they are in their own identities.

There are many ways to show pride for a partner — whether that be sharing their successes, celebrating their triumphs or simply cheering them on even when they fall. In this new age of situationships, “casual” relationships and unlabeled partners, pride is often an overlooked emotion. Men are constantly afraid of sharing their partners or posting relationships on social media. The simple act of walking down the street with the person you love can be an act of pride, and the bold intention does not go unnoticed.

Chalamet and Sprouse remind us that pride is an act of deep affection. To recognize that someone always has your back brings security to life. This notion holds true across all types of relationships, and both partners should give each other equal support. Today’s boyfriends could use a little more pride by grabbing some pom-poms every once in a while — even if they are adored actors who draw focus wherever they stand.
