INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Following the Colts’ loss to the previously winless Titans on Sunday, Colts general manager Chris Ballard was relieved of his duties on Monday.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen addressed the dismissal of Ballard.
“I got a ton of respect for Chris,” Steichen said. “He worked tirelessly for this organization, for this city, and it’s the (expletive) part of the business. I don’t think it falls completely on Chris. I’m the head football coach. It takes all of us, coaches, scouts, everybody, and we got to put our best foot forward moving forward.”
Steichen shared what his reaction to Ballard’s firing was.
“When I heard the news today, I talked to Carlie (Irsay-Gordon),” Steichen said. “Disappointed, obviously. I got a relationship with Chris. Like I said, a phenomenal human. High character. Just one of the best people I’ve ever been around.”
Steichen also addressed the security of his own job.
“I’m grateful for every day that I’m in this building and I don’t take that for granted,” Steichen said. “I got to get these guys ready for the Vikings.”
The Colts (2-4) go on the road to play the Minnesota Vikings (5-0) on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
