Carbon dioxide leak causes Skål Beer Hall evacuation

Skål Beer Hall (5429 Ballard Ave NW) evacuated their building on Saturday morning after discovering a carbon dioxide leak.

Skål owner Adam McQueen tells My Ballard that they have a CO2 monitor in their basement with an audible and flashing alarm that signalled the leak.

Seattle Fire sent a hazmat response to Skål at 10:30 a.m. and found dangerous levels of CO2, according to the department. McQueen says the leak was in their walk-in cooler.

“The fire department was wonderful,” McQueen said. “We got the leak repaired immediately that afternoon and were able to open for business by 3 p.m.”
