Two people have died and a pair of firefighters suffered minor injuries after, officials say, flames erupted in a townhome in Wilmington, Delaware overnight.

According to fire officials, the incident began at a home along 8th Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware, at about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The incident led to the collapse of the structure, officials said.

Two victims, officials said, perished in the flames and two firefighters needed to be hospitalized after suffering minor injures during the response to the fire.

As of about 5:10 a.m., officials said, the fire was under control.

Officials did not immediately provide additional identifying information on the two people who were killed, nor did they say how the firefighters were injured or detail what may have caused the fire.

But, officials said early Tuesday that an investigation is ongoing.
