On Sunday, around 15,000 people participated in this year's SF edition of Diplo's Run Club, a now roving run-and-party event that the DJ and producer launched in San Francisco two years ago.
Diplo's Run Club came back to SF again on Sunday, and around 15,000 participants ran a 3.1-mile course that started and ended at Robin Williams Meadow in Golden Gate Park. As KRON4 reports, this year's race ended with a DJ set by Jax Jones and a mini morning rave (presumably drug free?) in the meadow.
Diplo also did a DJ set, and was joined on stage by Bay Area legend Too $hort, who performed an unreleased song, as well as his classic "Blow the Whistle."
Diplo became an avid runner in recent years, and he launched Diplo's Run Club with a 5K fun run that ended with a dance party on the Embarcadero in September 2024. As Diplo wrote on Instagram after this year's race, "the future is uncertain but 15,000 people dancing before lunch in the bay is a good sign."
As KRON4 notes, this year's event was expected to have 12,000 runners, and it's unclear whether the 15,000 number that Diplo posted reflected registered runners, or the estimated crowd that ended up in the meadow afterward — which presumably attracted people who didn't run the whole course as well.
According to the results page, runners Raul Arcos and Zach Litoff took first and second place in Sunday's race.
Diplo's Run Club returned in October 2025 as an annual event, moving over to Golden Gate Park to reduce traffic impacts. The event now happens in nine cities in total, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Mexico City, and it seems like Diplo himself runs all the races.
He's also making a lot of money on this thing, with $140 entry fees ($240 for the VIP experience, which just comes with a VIP viewing area for the concert) and sellout events, that's a minimum gross take of $1.7 million per event, assuming they're all as big or bigger than the SF race.
Diplo has spent a fair bit of time in the Bay Area of late, performing with Major Lazer at Stern Grove July, and doing a Pier 80 concert over Super Bowl weekend back in February, along with a pop-up show at a Mission taqueria.
